Bill's son is getting married slightly above his station so Bill has to doff dress suit. So does his younger son. Both object to this.

Play's opening:

A LOUNGE OF A HOUSE IN SOUTH WALES. GRANNY IS AT THE WINDOW LOKING OUT ON THE STREET.
GRANNY: There's that Jenkins girl going up the street, flaunting herself like as if she's.... I don't know what. Her legs are as white as white. Just look at the way she flaunts herself. And her skirt's as short as short.... Wait, there's Wilf Benfield. What's he doing about here?
EILEEN: Canvassing for the local elections I suppose.
