Two "men" or spirits in Limbo discuss the case of Harold Davidson. He himself makes an appearance in order to defend himself against the charges made against him by the Church of England when they defrocked him. This was in the 1930's. Later he became famous for preaching on Blackpool pier (in a barrel) and preaching in a lion's cage in a circus. A lion killed him and he has landed in Limbo.

The play begins:

WILSON: Mauled by a lion you say?
POLLARD: Yes.
WILSON: And died as a result?
POLLARD: Yes.
WILSON: In a jungle?
POLLARD: No, in a lion's den.
