A retired miner is about to phone his daughter who lives in London but he hesitates since the last time he met up with her and her posh husband things went disastrously wrong when escagots were ordered in a restaurant.

Play's opening:

A RESTAURANT.
DESMOND: Shall we?
SUSAN: Why not?
DESMOND: (To the waiter) Escargots.
WAITER: Yes sir.
